The infrared anti-scale pad snaps in place below the heating element, just inside the heating element housing, to help reduce scale buildup. This means that you can run several cycles without cleaning, instead of having to disassemble and clean your unit after every cycle as competing models require. This saves you time making the Model 200 much more convenient to use. These are recommended to change every 3-6 months depending on the amount of scale in your municipal water. Cleaning Crystals Info:

Water distiller cleaning crystals remove stubborn water scale residue. Long lasting 16 Ounce Jar (453 Grams). Made primarily of citric acid mono-hydrate which exists in all plants, especially in lemons and limes. Removes any stubborn residue and scale remaining in the boiling tank.

Instructions: Fill water tray with water and add 2 tablespoons Cleaning Crystals. Let the solution sit until mineral deposit loosens. Discard water and rinse interior well.
